Farming is inextricably linked with Irish sustainability. The public, however, are losing their connection with the land and nature, and are hearing only one set of stories in relation to farming. It is important that people come to feel a greater affinity with nature, and to understand farming & how is changing.

There are 137,500 family farms in Ireland, and farming is central to our rural culture & society. Agrifood produces close to 40% of our net foreign earnings from merchandise exports. We can't simply switch off farming; these problems need to be fixed.

The Irish farming sector needs an empathetic & accurately-informed social environment within which to change. Helping create this is the purpose of Coolkirky's Irish Biodiversity Farm.

In parallel, we need people across the country to engage (in homes, schools, towns) in reversing biodiversity loss - it's as serious as (and closely related to) climate change but has captured far less citizen attention. To initiate & orchestrate new conversations and communities in relation to these matters, Coolkirky Farm will be financed, purchased & used as the physical location for the Irish Biodiversity Farm.

We are building a rich Irish farming experience, combining virtual ownership, online community, virtual-reality and multimedia enjoyment, and in-person enjoyment of the farm.

Our family is working to acquire deeply beautiful farmland. We’re purpose-driven, and want to use our farm to do good. We also know that we will love having others share in enjoying what we enjoy, and in the connectedness found in farming.

Through creativity and technology, we’ve put together a way of having people own (for an extended period) a very generous part of our farm, and to share virtually in the intrinsic pleasure of farm ownership and farming - but without having to carry any of the real responsibility or regular workload.

Our mission has been to find a formula that 1) will truly add enjoyment and meaning to several lives and families, even spanning and connecting generations; 2) that does so over multiple decades, becoming an ongoing source of joy & purpose; 3) that uses technology to deliver the greatest benefits remotely, offering the deepest possible form of ongoing Irish connection to our diaspora who can only visit the farm infrequently in person; 4) that will also enrich our lives, bringing satisfaction, friendships and connection; 5) that will be viable and stable in the long term; and 6) that lets us work together to do meaningful good.
